How to survive a toxic work environment - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / How to survive a toxic work environment - Introvert Whisperer How to survive a toxic work environment? Do you wake up every morning and dread to go to the office? Do you detest the politics and drama that goes on in your office? When it comes to being a victim of a toxic workplace, you are not alone. You will be surprised to know that recent research has thrown light on the shocking fact of how 53 per cent of employees all over the world are currently unhappy at work. If you detested homework at school, you are bound to hate this as well. So what defines a toxic workplace? Haley Denver, a Human Resource expert, defines a poisonous work environment as one that cultivates bullying, backbiting and unhealthy competition. If you are a part of a workplace that has too much of political manipulations going on, we hear you. We understand how difficult it is to deal with an unappreciative boss and unyielding managers. Add to that, there is relentless backbiting and snitching that just does not let you breathe easy. According to a survey, it has been found out that working in a toxic workplace can lead to health and mental problems. Stress from a toxic work environment can lead to lowered self-confidence due to continuous bullying and emotional shaming. The consequences of toxicity in a workplace are not just limited to a person’s physical health. A person who is subjected to a dangerous work ambience turns bitter due to the stress. Working in a toxic environment can adversely affect your power of concentration and may lead to a weakened immune system. As a result, you cannot give in your 100% at work. The best solution to this is to get out of the toxic situation as soon as possible. However, for various commitments and obligations, it becomes difficult for you to leave your job all of a sudden. So, we suggest you fight and survive through the ordeal and emerge out as a winner. Here is a list of DOs and DONTs that you need to keep in mind to fight back the toxicity at your workplace. DOs Be positive Instead of whining about the workload or the ambience and the people in it, try to see the good in everybody. Irrespective of all the bullying and misbehaviour, you go about with a smile on your face and try to appreciate others. Yes! I know â€" however easy it may sound, practicing it in real life can be quite a challenging task. But you must understand that continuous exposure to negativity can make you feel even more miserable. Try and keep yourself away from all kinds of negative discussions. Since you are a victim of toxicity, do not engage in speaking ill of others. Instead, we suggest you draw up a list of all the good points about your job. Enjoy the free coffee and Wi-Fi and the gym facilities. This will help you shift your perception and feel more relaxed. Be yourself While a healthy dose of competition can promote efficiency, aggressive pulling down and snitching amongst co-workers can create a disturbing environment and can disrupt harmony. Rather than being a part of the ruthless rat race, stay away from the bandwagon and do your work at your own pace. Do not try to bring others down and sincerely try to bond with your colleagues. While in the malignant ambience, do not lose sight of who you are. Be true to yourself and do not give in. Easier said than done, I know. But, keep up the fight and do not let the virulent people around you make you one of them. If anything, you should grow stronger so that you can transcend all levels of bullying so that none of this can affect you. Make allies and stop the war An average working hour’s span is of 8 hours. Imagine bottling up every emotion and not talking to anyone from 9 to 5? That is just impossible! You cannot stay without interacting with people around you for that long a period. But if you feel that the people around you are selfish and judgmental, we suggest you build your own tribe within the office to deal with them. Cornering yourself in the office and isolating yourself completely can just add on to your stress. When you have someone in the office that you can vent out your feelings to, it becomes easier to deal with the bad air within the office. When we say a friend, it does not mean someone you can hang around with. But someone you can trust enough to share a wavelength with. Support each other and understand each others frustrations. When you get a partner, it helps you to handle the ordeal in a better way. Create your own space To counter the negativity surrounding you, create your own zone where you can feel more relaxed. Adorn your workstation or cubicle with things that make you happy. Pinup photos of your friends and people who matter to you. This will help you deal with anxiety triggers and exude positive energy. Write your goals on post-its and pin them up on your dashboard to remind yourself what you are there for. Hang posters of inspirational sayings that soothe you. Do everything to tell yourself who you are and to feel loved and appreciated while in a toxic work zone. Try to find a cubicle away from the din of your colleagues so that you can miss out on the negative discussions that go on all the time. Communicate more Proper communication can solve problems in a jiffy! Do not underestimate the value of excellent communication. Instead of keeping things bottled up, just go up to the person in question and sort it out. Keeping things within will make it grow bigger, and if you do not let it out, it can cause a lot of mental stress. At times, a candid conversation can immediately sort out something without any complications. So communicate more to simplify things around you. DON’Ts Take your work home Quite recently, Amazon India’s head, Amit Agarwal, has asked employees not to respond to office emails after their working hours. It is okay to choose to work overtime, but that should not be a reoccurring thing. Do not take the pressure home as that will mean you are bringing the negativity along with you into your home. This might affect your work â€" life harmony and can add on to your stress. Continuous slogging can give rise to anxiety and can make you bitter. So keep your workload to the ambit of your workplace and devote enough time to your social life too. Go out and enjoy a movie or a night out with friends to unwind. Do things that will help you to forget about the problems you face at work?   Believe everything you hear Since a toxic workplace is all about backbiting and spreading rumours, we suggest you do not focus on everything you hear around you. It is just a part of grapevine, and everything is just a game of Chinese whispers. So take it easy and learn to differentiate facts from stories. Do not believe everything that you hear about yourself and do not take them to heart and brood over it. Instead of wasting your energy to locate the sources of the rumour, just breathe easy and learn to ignore such stories. Believe something only when you see or hear it for yourself. Participate In Drama Keep unnecessary drama as far as you can. Do not welcome unwanted discussions amongst your co-workers about another colleague. Steer clear from such people who over criticise and shame people. To keep the negativity at bay, do not engage in gossip. Keep in mind that you too can be their victim once you turn your back on them. Whenever you feel that things are becoming complicated, choose to step out of the group and walk away. If you still cannot deal with the stress, you can talk to the HR department for a solution. They will undoubtedly have a way out for you. And, if you think that the stress has taken a toll on you, we recommend you to seek professional help from a counselor. At the end of the day, remember that you are a fighter and you can see through the bad time! Author Bio: Shirley Brown, a career coach and counselor, extends Dissertation help to students of psychology through Myassignment Help. Besides being a passionate artist, she loves to travel around the world.

Algebra Problems Online Tutoring - Maths Tutors

Algebra Problems Online Tutoring - Maths Tutors We know Algebra is one of the main things in math. We can say Algebra is the study of rules of operations and relations. We have many branches of Algebra; those are Elementary Algebra, Linear Algebra, pre Algebra, Modern Algebra and Boolean algebra. In algebra to simplify and use the different types of operations, we follow a rule that is termed as PEMDAS. Here, P stands for Parenthesis E stands for exponents M stands for Multiplication D stands for division A stands for Addition S stands for Subtraction. Example 1: Evaluate [6 (3 6 (6 4) + 7)] + 3. Solution: To simplify this, we can use the PEMDAS rule. First we can do the operation in the parenthesis. = [6 (3 6 (6 4) + 7)] + 3 = [6 (3 6(2) + 7)] + 3 Now we can do the multiplication = [6 (3 12 + 7)] + 3 = [6 + 2] + 3 = 10 Example 2: Solve (x-4) /3 = (x+5) /2 Solution: To solve this we can do the cross multiplication, that is 2 (x 4) = 3 (x + 5) 2x 8 = 3x + 15 We can write this as 3x + 15 = 2x 8 We can add 2x on both sides 3x + 15 2x = 2x 8 2x (3x 2x) + 15 = - 8 x + 15 = - 8 We can add 15 on both sides of the equation x + 15 15 = - 8 15 x = - 23

Basics of Singing The Dos and Donts of Singing in a Group

Basics of Singing The Dos and Donts of Singing in a Group Suzy S. Mastering the basics of singing  is just one of the many steps youll need to take when training your voice. You may think that once youve tackled the various exercises needed to improve agility, tone, and technique, and learned the basics of  good posture  and support, that youre winning the battle and well on the way to being a good singer.  The truth is, you may have mastered the basics of singing on an individual level, but if you want to eventually sing with others, there are many other skills that you need to learn to make you a both a good colleague and a useful member of any ensemble and many of them have nothing to do with your voice! Here are some of the do’s and don’ts when it comes to singing as part of a choir: Be Businesslike If youre just singing for fun, this may seem like a strange thing to master. However, your choir leaders are most likely renting out their rehearsal venue and keeping a careful eye on costs. If members are late and waste rehearsal time, its also wasting money for the choir; when it comes to re-auditioning, the perpetual absentee or member who always shows up late may find that their vocal services are no longer required. Dont be that person! Learn Your Music On some songs, depending on your vocal range, you may be assigned to the harmony line. This is quite different from singing the melody, which comes naturally to most singers. Knowing how to read music is one of the basics of singing that will help immensely work with a vocal teacher to help you with this, and youll go much further than your fellow singers who need extra time because they need to hear the tune several times or play it on the piano before being able to sing it. Dont be a Wrecker Those of us that have attended the concerts of friends and family members that already sing in choirs are probably familiar with the concept of The Wrecker. The Wrecker is usually brimming with confidence for all the wrong reasons, incapable of watching the conductor, sings off key or out of time loudly, and doesnt come in and come off notes at the same time as their colleagues. One of the worst things about a Wrecker is that they are usually completely unaware of what theyre doing. Watch the conductor, count carefully, and be aware of whats going on around you dont be a Wrecker! Listen to Your Colleagues Knowing your music isnt enough; to be a really good choral singer you have to know the other parts fairly well too, and be able to listen to others at the same time. Its important to work on blending with the other voices; make sure that you arent singing louder or softer than your section colleagues, and listen carefully so that you start and end phrases as a section, or in unison passages, as a choir. Work With a Vocal Coach   Whether youre a hobby singer or have professional aspirations, youve probably considered studying with a teacher one-on-one to get beyond the basics of singing (if you arent already!). A singing teacher will train your voice as an individual and teach you how to control your instrument, including how to manage pitch problems, improve your breathing, and develop your natural skills as a musician. These are all invaluable traits for any vocalist, whether youre singing solo or as part of a group! Of course, group singing isnt limited to choirs; you can improve your musicianship and vocal skills  by seeking out ensembles of varying size to sing with, even if its just singing duets with a friend at a similar stage of study, or a casual a cappella group. You may be surprised how much your abilities as a solo singer improve by listening to and singing with others! Interested in Private Lessons? What is Microbiology From Learning Microbiology to Becoming a Microbiologist ChaptersWhat is Microbiology?Microbiology JobsHow to Study MicrobiologyIf you’ve ever studied concepts related to the molecular processes of organism, or the steps involved in everything genetics related, chances are you’ve studied a type of biology called microbiology. This type of molecular biology focuses on the biological processes, structures and functions of organisms on a microscopic scale. The study of microbiology involves the interaction of many different types of fields within the biological sciences, such as ecology, medical microbiology or other related biomedical areas. Being an expert in this dynamic field can mean being a researcher into genomic processes or pathogenesis, developing practical policies with regards to infectious diseases or biochemical products, sequencing genomes, and even producing new antimicrobial products. If you're interested in learning how microbiology has changed the study of the animal kingdom, check out the biological science of zoology. Organismal biology has, in fact, developed the most recently in comparison to the other three main branches. This science, more commonly referred to as microbiology, focuses on the study of microorganisms. The field's history can be traced ba ck to the 17th century and its concerns with testing the structure and functions of the most common microorganisms, like bacteria and fungi. The scientist credited to have published history's first work on microbiology was named Antoine van Leeuwenhoek. His drawings and observations made up a body of work that was eventually published by the British Royal Society. His work, which analyzed everything from the protozoans to the bacteria of animals, inspired many other powerful experiments and observations of the century. The discipline of microbiology changed forever during the 19th century. There were two major developments that occurred during this time period that not only ameliorated the lives of those living in the era but continue to play a role in our daily lives in the present. One such innovation involves the concept of pasteurization. Pasteur, a now infamous scientist, produced this method out of his curiosity to understand everything about bacteria. In the process of experimen tation, he discovered pasteurization, which is a method of subjecting items to high temperatures with the goal of eliminating potentially harmful pathogens. This process is still used today for many commercial foods and drinks. The second major development was produced by Robert Koch. A contemporary of Pasteur, Koch also concerned himself with the experimentation and analysis of bacteria. Koch, at the time, wrote and published work that focused on microorganisms that caused diseases in both the animal and the plant kingdom.Microbiologists can study anything from the art of microscopy to studying antibiotic resistanceThe field of microbiology has been forever marked, however, by the technological advancements of the 20th and 21st centuries. The young science grew as both computer and imaging technology improved, ameliorating both the examination of microorganisms and implementing better strategies with the aid of computer technology.Modern microbiology is now a field that covers a vas t array of subjects, from biochemistry and genetics, to even fields concerned with the study of aquatic animals. The discipline focuses on solving the world's most urgent problems, from examining metabolic and nutritional information to finding the cure for dangerous and infectious diseases.Check out  biology tutors near me  on Superprof.Microbiology JobsSo you’ve been studying microbiology and want to know the possible career prospects? The exciting news is that being a scientist in this discipline is as rewarding as it is diverse. Here, we give some of the important information on the professions, as well as the possible salaries and educational requirements involved in majoring in microbiology.Microbiology and cell biology involves the cooperation between many different fields, and is, therefore, a branch of biology that offers many different professional paths, which include work in the medical field for degrees in medical biology as well as work in governments for people inte rested in general biology. One of the first tasks you should complete if you’d like to become part of the microbiology workforce understands what types of degrees you will have to attain in accordance with the jobs you are considering. For example, while entry-level work as a biology technician in a laboratory will often only require a bachelors degree, some medical and clinical laboratory technologists require a masters degree on top of the bachelors.Finances can also be an important factor in informing your decision to pick up or continue studying microbiology â€" and therefore, it is extremely important to do some simple searches on the amount companies normally compensate the positions you’re looking into. For example, comparing only students with a masters in microbiology, you can get around £60,000 with job title related to microbiologist â€" whereas titles relating to the position of natural science manager can earn up to £110,000 a year. This is obviously a huge variati on between masters with the same degree, so positions with different degree requirements will be even more variable.Environmental  ScientistsIf you’re interested in the portion of microbiology that deals with the great outdoors â€" finding work in public health and policy making can be an extremely satisfying career pathway. Environmental microbiology often deals with understanding the impacts of microorganisms, including bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi. Here are some other disciplines you can study if this interests you:PhysiologyImmunologyClinical and Medical Laboratory WorkThis type of work often involves students on the masters and postdoctoral level. While pursuing a career in the medical field is often seen as laborious and expensive, it can often be rewarding both mentally and financially. Working in fields related to clinical microbiology can lead you to both become a top earner and also work in innovative experiments. These experiments often try to solve some of th e world’s most pressing issues related to things like diseases and medical treatments. Some of the areas you can study if you’re interested in this field are:BacteriologyEpidemiologyGenomicsVirologyBiochemistry and BiophysicsEntry level positions in this field often require a masters degree, while senior positions in independent research often need candidates with doctorate degrees. This profession will involve a lot of research work that integrates the fields of biology with mathematics, chemistry and physics. If you have interests in all these fields, from creating nanotechnology for diabetes patients to better understanding biological processes, this career path can be very rewarding. Here are some of the other areas of study you can focus on if you’d like to study this field:BiotechnologyBioinformaticsDesigning exhibitions about biological processes is a viable career option for microbiologistsHow to Study MicrobiologyStudying microbiology can be as difficult as it is inte resting, which is why many people struggle to find the motivation to start or continue studying it. However, because microbiology is a field that penetrates every biological process of individuals and the world around them, it can be extremely rewarding to understand even the most basic of concepts within the discipline â€" everything from the microbial life of an organism, to the cellular and genetic characteristics of microorganisms. Here are some basic concepts of microbiology that you may be currently learning or need help remembering. These concepts are important as they form the foundation for understanding what exactly microbiology seeks to understand and how it impacts the field of science.PathogenA pathogen in microbiology refers to a biological agent that either cases an illness or disease to its host body. The process by which they disrupt the host’s normal functions involves mainly affecting the physiology of the animal or plant it has invaded. Combating pathogens invol ves a series of vaccinations, antibiotics and fungicides.GenomeGenomes are very important to an organism’s life â€" in fact, it is the very building block of it. An organisms’ genome is the complete set of Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid, or DNA. This includes, of course, all of an organism’s genes, which hold the information used in the very building and maintaining of the organism itself.MicrobesWhile it might sound dangerous at first glance, humans are actually hosts to millions of microbes, more commonly known as microorganisms. These microorganisms include bacteria, viruses and fungi. While most bacteria do not pose a threat to organisms, the majority of viruses are responsible for disease. Viruses can be either mild, causing colds for example, or extremely serious and dangerous, causing AIDS for example.Fungi, on the other hand, are evenly split between beneficial and dangerous qualities. While some edible fungi like mushrooms have positively contributed to human subsistence, s ome fungi can also cause diseases.Microbiological processes are not visible by the naked eyeBacterialEverything to do with bacterial biology has to do with bacteria, the single cell organisms that can survive in the most extreme environments. As previously mentioned, the majority of bacteria are not harmful to humans. In fact, there is a vast array of bacteria that actually help many of the processes both in nature and in organisms take place. There are some diseases, however, caused by bacteria â€" but the amount of disease-causing bacteria as a total of all types make up less than 1%. Some examples of bacteria caused disease include sicknesses like tuberculosis, and many infections like diarrhea and tonsillitis.ParasiteDefining parasites is a bit difficult, as there are many living organisms â€" animals and plants â€" that can be characterized as parasitic. Parasites are organisms that rely on other organisms for food and shelter. While parasitic relationships can sometimes provide some benefits to the host, many parasitic relationships produce either disease or injury to the host. This is also called symbiosis.Interested in learning more about the many different disciplines within biology? Check out this guide!
